Porsche 911 GT3 RS: Visceral Exorcism

VISCERAL EXORCISM

It would seem that the world has changed and that most people would prefer boring half-measures, shades of gray instead of white or black. It is as if it’s no time for superheroes and all of us are destined to a steady, slow and inexorable spiritual decline. So we gotta feel lucky for being able to be saved from this road to Boredom City, take up the weapon that we most prefer and play with our guts, in the precise moment we turn the ignition key of the new 911 GT3 RS. To be simple and concise they should make you pay an entrance fee before getting on board, and especially after having been warned you about the risks you run, after having asked about your heart condition or if your girlfriend is sweet waiting. The visceral experience that the RS offers you is a one way ticket to the circle of the lustful and in less than no time will turn into a drug that will leave no escape to your neurons, now destined to roam eternally searching for an equally extreme thrill and that rarely you will be able to experience anywhere else.
That’s the reason why Dario secured his own GT3 RS with two and a half years ahead of the first deliveries in Italy – he knew well that story and had absolutely no intention of getting stuck in boring queues doubled soon after the RS made its first appearance on stage. Noisy, flashy, fast, extreme in every aspect – what you expect from a car that instead of the Start & Stop button has the pit speed limiter?! This is an object of desire, become a cult model at the speed of light, the same it takes to lap a racing track, thanks to a further refined mechanics from the GT3 which it originates – a phenomenal way to lose ten years of life, when you decide to force a corner to the limit. But the RS, precise and equally human, does not disappoint you; what it differs is that the RS wants you to do more and so you try, giving it a sort of confidence mixed with a fear that will be driven out only after a careful analysis of your and its limits – at that point it is just like hanging around with the bad boys of the neighborhood. Everyone’s watching at you, some envy you and you feel on top of everything, immortal, invincible, in the middle of a limbo oozing adrenaline and shaking your legs. You can’t go back and especially you do not want to, and so you put the gear lever in manual (sequential) and leave on the ground a signature courtesy of 500 horsepower and XXL size tires.
It was a long time that me and Dario were trying to arrange a meeting and then, between less than three weeks, we have met twice. The second, at the rally organized by the Porsche Center Varese at the Cantina Pico Maccario in Mombaruzzo has been the one where we have decided that our DSLRs would have made a proper tribute to one of the best supercars that ever walked the roads of this planet. Based on the 991 GT3, it is lighter, nervous and powerful, but it rides on a car body borrowed from the 991 Turbo and so wider, with catchy air vents on the rear wheel arches and a rear wing that does not allow any doubt about its racing nature. It is a racing car designed for the track, but you can “safely” use it on road. Dario, aware of what he keeps in the garage, guards it jealously and uses it only on special occasions and on weekends and we certainly can’t blame him. Once in motion, the exhaust is made even sportier thanks to the removal of the central muffler replaced with a Cargraphic body that always keeps the valve opened, filling your ears and making your chest vibrate like an incessant drumbeat. The front splitter, as well as the enormous blacks monoblock wheels speak a universal language that all passers-by can’t help but admire in silence, but the desire to loosen the reins is too much and then we head towards a slightly beaten path, where the 500hp of the GT3 RS will be able, even if only in part, to vent their desire to scream until the limiter. You do not enter into an RS, but you incorporate within its interior – Spartan yes, but it still keeps the ergonomics and compactness of the other 911s. The steering wheel in Alcantara is perfect, the pedals is perfect, the microfiber sports seats are perfect … the entire world here is perfect! Turning back and looking for the seatbelts and you decide to connect the 4-point harnesses, glancing at the cage that takes the place of the rear seats. The fire extinguisher is here too, PDK box in “D” and all you have to do is to bury the throttle. Then, a curve after another, you realize that it’s not just the sheer brutal power that is delivered to the rear axle that makes the GT3 RS one of the best cars of the last 2016 years, but that way you’re pressed to the seat when you ask it to take you to the horizon in the shortest possible time. The 7-speeds are fired in quick succession, but each represents a symphony that reaches 8.250 revs – then the click of the right paddle anticipates a roar coming out of the double pipes at the back and the naturally aspirated 6-cylinder gives us a feeling hard to describe appropriately. The 3.3 seconds (0-100) have never seemed so unnecessary and this is the great merit of a 1:1 scale toy for men that want to be children again and live the purest and beautiful emotion: happiness.
