Porsche Boxster Bergspyder: This 981 Single-Seater Is Obscenely Glorious
Inspired by the legendary Porsche 909, the history of the 981 Boxster Bergspyder is made of passion and awareness that to push yourself ever further you must cherish and celebrate your glorious past. Commissioned in 2015 and unveiled to the public just recently, the main intention was to create a minimalist and no-frills sports car, able to offer a power/weight ratio worthy of paying the best tribute to good old racing cars, while remaining usable on the road. With just 384kg of weight of the 50 years old 909 in mind, the engineers have created a completely reworked version of the 981 Boxster, maintaining the same philosophy of the reference model, as well as the colors: white with green accents.
The astonishing result comes in the form of a Boxster with only one seat and no roof, windshield or door, while on the engine compartment we have a covering panel that closely resembles another legendary model from Stuttgart, the 356 Speedster. The overall weight of the 981 Bergspyder is 1,099kg, an excellent milestone, while the engine is the 3.8cc from 400-hp of the Cayman GT4. Unfortunately the 981 Bergspyder remains – at least for now – an exceptional display of stylistic and engineering skills, for the simple fact that it would not be easy to homologate it for road use in every Country. We like to dream and imagine that a similar model, perhaps with an extra seat to share some extraordinary adventure, could really become your next weekend car.
